BATAVIA, Ohio– The UC Clermont Lady Cougars beat Clark State by a final score of 58-56 on Wednesday night. UC Clermont had a 13-point lead after three quarters and held off a ferocious comeback from Clark State to secure the victory. The Lady Cougars beat the Eagles 70-43 earlier in the season.
UC Clermont jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter. A 9-0 run to begin the second quarter stretched the lead to 22-8. Clark State was able to cut into that lead, getting the score to 24-20. The Lady Cougars closed the second quarter strong, going to half with a 33-22 advantage.
Clermont scored 6 unanswered and extended their lead to 17 early in the third quarter. They had a comfortable 48-35 lead heading into the final quarter. Clark State rattled off 8 unanswered points following a 56-43 deficit in the fourth quarter. Tamira Scott knocked down a pair of clutch free throws to put the Lady Cougars up by 7 with 1:43 remaining in the game. The Eagles scored 5 more unanswered points and trimmed the lead to 2 with just 42 seconds left. The Eagles got one last possession with 9 seconds remaining. Tamira Scott came up with a steal to ice the game with just 5 seconds left.
Tamira Scott led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Keara Brooks led the team with 15 rebounds, 8 of those being offensive boards. McKaila Hatton knocked down a team-high four 3-pointers and had 15 points. Alexis Neal added 13 points and a team-high 5 steals.
Christyn Anthony led the Eagles with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 assists. Laila Marshall added 15 points and 8 rebounds off of the bench. Emah Carrasco had 10 points and 2 steals.
UC Clermont improves to 5-6 overall and will travel to take on Apprentice on Friday at 5 p.m. Clark State falls to 2-11 overall and will travel to take on Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
