BATAVIA, Ohio– Simmons College of Kentucky beat UC Clermont by a score of 82-79 on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars jumped out to a 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter. The lead grew to 27-13 before the Falcons chipped away at the lead, cutting it to a 39-33 deficit at the half. Simmons College then had a huge third quarter, outscoring UC Clermont by a 31-16 margin and taking a 64-55 lead. The Cougars outscored the Falcons by a 24-18 margin in the fourth quarter, though their comeback attempt fell just short. They ultimately lost the game by 3.
Morgan Defoor led the Falcons with 31 points, six steals, and knocked down seven three pointers. Andrea Seay finished with 18 points, a team-high 8 rebounds, a team-high 6 assists, and the only two blocks for Simmons.
Tamira Scott led the Cougars with 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kendra Gorslin led the team in rebounds, pulling down 10 boards and adding 5 steals. Katie Tatum had 20 points and a team-high 6 assists. Shelby Humphrey recorded 14 points and connected on 4 of her 6 three point attempts.
Both teams shot well from the three point line (Simmons 40.7%, Clermont 39.3%). The Falcons converted on just 50% of their free throws, while the Cougars shot 72.7% from the free throw stripe. 17 of the 46 total rebounds for Simmons were offensive rebounds, leading to 17 extra chance points and 15 more shot attempts than UC Clermont. The Cougars turned the ball over 24 times, while the Falcons turned it over 20 times.
UC Clermont falls to 0-2 and will look for their first win when they host Kentucky Christian University next Saturday. Simmons College of Kentucky picks up their first win of the season and will host Kentucky Christian University on Wednesday.
