BATAVIA, Ohio– The Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles beat the UC Clermont Lady Cougars by a score of 75-64 on Sunday. The Lady Cougars jumped out to an 18-11 advantage and led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles outscored UC Clermont 20-15 in a back-and-forth second quarter and took a 36-33 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles would then extend their lead to double digits, outscoring the Lady Cougars 21-10 in the third quarter. The Lady Cougars trailed by as many as 21 but would battle back in the fourth quarter, ultimately falling short.
Zoey Steele led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Mallory Stutzman recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nevaeh Harrison connected on three 3-pointers and recorded 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Tamarra Thomas led the team with 5 assists off of the bench.
Tamira Scott led the Lady Cougars with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. McKaila Hatton had 15 points and 3 rebounds while knocking down three triples. Bryana Price shot 7-10 from the field and gave the Lady Cougars 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists off of the bench.
The Lady Cougars out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 51-47 and shot a higher percentage from the field (37.1% to 36.5%). UC Clermont turned the ball over 29 times, while Kent State Tuscarawas turned it over 19 times.
The Lady Cougars fall to 5-8 overall and will host Miami Middletown on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles improve to 10-2 and will travel to play Miami-Hamilton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
