SOMERSET, Kentucky- UC Clermont defeated Campbellsville University Somerset by a score of 89-85 on Sunday. CU Somerset had an 8-point lead at halftime, but the Cougars came back thanks to a 51-point second half performance.
David Hunter had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter also had 3 steals and 4 assists. John Aicholtz was the leading scorer for UC Clermont with 17 points and 5 rebounds off of the bench. Greg Marsh had 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Marlin Lyons went 7-for-9 from the field and nearly had a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Nick Braun converted on two 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. It was an all-around good team performance offensively for the Cougars.
Keelan Kennedy went 12-for-12 from the free throw line and had a double-double with 32 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Derek Webb hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Antwan Hurt shot an efficient 6-for-9 from the field and tallied 14 points for the Tigers. K.J. Rucker had 13 points and 3 assists.
Both teams shot poorly from three-point range. CU Somerset shot 29.2% from the three-point line, while UC Clermont shot 22.2%. The Cougars outrebounded the Tigers 49-to-36. UC Clermont shot 76% from the foul line, while CU Somerset converted on 66.7% of their foul shots.
CU Somerset loses their third consecutive game and falls to 6-6 on the season. UC Clermont wins their third game in a row and improves to 8-4. The Cougars will be at home against Clark State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
