HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky– Northern Kentucky beat UC Clermont by a score of 126-69 on Monday night. Senior forward Kael Robinson led the Norse with 22 points on 90% from the field (9-10) and 80% from the three point line (4-5). LJ Wells had a double-double with 14 points, 10 boards, and a team high two blocks. Donovan Oday had a team high five steals, though teammate Shawn Nelson had four of his own off of the bench.
NKU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Norse led 63-28 at halftime and cruised to another 63 points in the second half. The Norse tied their program record with 126 points and pushed their win streak to seven straight over the Cougars.
Freshman guard Austin Southerland led the Cougars with 25 points. AJ Robinson provided nine points and three rebounds off of the bench. Riley Woods led UC Clermont with five rebounds, five steals, and three assists.
The Norse out rebounded the Cougars 57-24, 22 of those 57 being offensive rebounds. NKU shot 61.8% from the field, while UC Clermont shot just 32.9%. The Norse connected on nearly half of their three point attempts, knocking down 12 of 28 from the three point line. The Cougars converted on 11 of their 36 three point attempts.
NKU improves to 1-0 overall. The Norse will travel to Knoxville to take on #18 Tennessee on Saturday. UC Clermont falls to 0-1 overall. The Cougars will travel to Springfield to play Clark State next Wednesday.
