Cougars End on a High Note

     BATAVIA, Ohio- UC Clermont defeated Kent State Tuscarawas by a score of 79-75 for their fifth consecutive win to close out the season in the Cougardome. The Cougars held an 11-point halftime lead and held off a second-half comeback attempt by the Golden Eagles. It seemed as if UC Clermont was pulling away when they held a 55-41 lead with 13:07 left in the game. Kent State Tuscarawas would cut the lead to 68-66 with just 4:25 left in the game before Greg Marsh hit a clutch layup to give the Cougars some breathing room. Marsh also hit a big free-throw that gave UC Clermont a 75-70 advantage with 1:20 to go.

 

     Greg Marsh finished with 24 points, 8 assists, and 7 steals. Marlin Lyons shot 6-for-8 from the field and added 12 points to go along with 6 rebounds. David Hunter connected on 2 three-pointers and had 10 points, as well as 4 steals. The Cougars racked up 18 steals as a team.

 

     DeJuan Lawrence had 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks for the Golden Eagles. Arthur Jackson finished with 23 points and 8 rebounds (6 of those being offensive rebounds). London Cobbs went 8-for-12 from the field and had 17 points to go along with 9 rebounds.

 

     UC Clermont finishes the season 10-4 with 5 wins in a row. They end on a high note and found their groove after a 5-4 start to the season. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-7 and will be home against Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) on Saturday at 12 p.m.
