Campbellsville University- Somerset @ UC Clermont Men’s Basketball Game Recap

     BATAVIA, Ohio- UC Clermont defeated Campbellsville University Somerset by a score of 85-80 in the Cougardome on Thursday night. The Cougars led 47-34 at halftime and the Tigers tried to pull off a comeback with a strong second half effort, but ultimately fell short in the end. Jared Baldock hit a big corner 3 to give UC Clermont some breathing room when the Cougars had just a slim 74-72 lead with 3:14 left to go in the game.

 

     Kourtney Ware hit two 3-pointers and finished with 39 points and 10 rebounds for CU Somerset. Antwan Hurt had 12 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds off of the bench. Keelan Kennedy had 14 rebounds to go along with 9 points. The Tigers had 9 steals and shot 43% from the field as a team. CU Somerset struggled from the three-point and the foul line. They went just 3-for-20 from three-point range, and 9-for-16 from the free-throw line.

 

     Four of the five UC Clermont starters finished with double-digit points. Greg Marsh connected on two 3-pointers and had 20 points to go along with 9 assists. Marlin Lyons and Nick Braun each had 16 points. Lyons had 8 rebounds and Braun hit three 3-pointers. David Hunter had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Jared Baldock connected on two 3-pointers and provided 12 points off of the bench. Jackson Gregory had 11 rebounds for the Cougars. The Tigers did not have a block, while UC Clermont came away with 5. The Cougars shot a nice 41.2% from three-point range and nearly 70% from the free-throw line. They were 45.6% from the field and had 15 assists as a team, compared to just 8 assists from CU Somerset.

 

     UC Clermont improves to 7-4, while CU Somerset falls to 6-5. Both of these teams will face off again on Sunday at 2 p.m. It will be a home game for Campbellsville University- Somerset this time around.
