CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio– The UC Clermont Lady Cougars beat Ohio Christian by a score of 70-64 on Wednesday night. The Trail Blazers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Cougars outscored Ohio Christian 23-20 in the second quarter and trailed 34-30 at half.
UC Clermont kept the momentum going in the third quarter and slowly chipped away at the lead. Lucy Rosen made a lay-up to give the Lady Cougars their first lead of the night at 43-41 with 4:50 left in the third. UC Clermont led 52-51 after it was back-and-forth for the remainder of the period.
The Lady Cougars led 59-53 early in the fourth quarter. The Trail Blazers went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 60-59. Tamira Scott hit a lay-up to grab the lead right back but Jordyn Smoot responded with a lay-up of her own on the next possession. Octavia Kelch knocked down a jump shot to give the Lady Cougars a 63-62 lead with just 2:21 left. Ohio Christian missed a three and Tamira Scott made a lay-up to extend the lead to 65-62. The Lady Cougars played great defense and converted on their free-throws down the stretch. Lucy Rosen, Tamira Scott, and McKaila Hatton all knocked down free-throws with under a minute left in regulation. This all culminated in a 70-64 win for UC Clermont.
Tamira Scott finished with 39 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Lucy Rosen had 14 points, 6 rebounds, a steal, and a block. McKaila Hatton went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line while finishing with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Octavia Kelch had 6 rebounds, 2 points, and 2 assists while Keara Brooks had 6 points with 4 rebounds.
Addison West finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Ohio Christian. Caris Risner had 10 points, 6 rebounds, a team-high 4 assists, and 2 steals. Elisha Smith led the team with 13 rebounds. Amiyah Tull had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and a team-high 3 steals.
The Lady Cougars out shot the Trail Blazers from the field (46.2% to 33.8%) and from three (33.3% to 25%). Ohio Christian won the rebound battle 43-27 and converted on 8 of their 9 free-throw attempts. The Lady Cougars shot 70.4% from the free-throw line. The game featured 9 lead changes.
UC Clermont improves to 7-8 overall and will travel to play Simmons on Saturday at 1 p.m. Ohio Christian falls to 1-16 and will travel to play Alice Lloyd College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
