MIDWAY, Kentucky-The Midway Eagles beat the UC Clermont Cougars by a score of 99-59 on Saturday. Midway jumped out to a commanding 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed. The Eagles outscored the Cougars 25-16 in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 47-25 lead. Midway put on a show in the third quarter, starting out with a 12-0 run and outscoring UC Clermont 34-11. The lead grew as big as 49.
Alexis Taylor shot 7-10 from the field and gave the Eagles 15 points and 7 rebounds off of the bench. A’Lyrica Hughes had a near double-double with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Jacie Chesser finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Morgan Cross had 10 points and 5 assists off of the bench.
Tamira Scott had 18 points and 4 rebounds for the Lady Cougars. Keara Brooks finished with a team-high 15 rebounds. Alexis Neal added 14 points and 5 rebounds.
The Eagles out-rebounded the Cougars 61-46 and had 27 second chance points. UC Clermont turned the ball over 27 times, leading to 33 points off turnovers. Midway turned it over just 7 times and got 61 points from their bench. The Eagles attempted 106 shots and were able to convert 41.5% of them. The Lady Cougars shot just 34.3% from the field and 1-11 from the 3-point line, but did connect on 12 of their 13 free throw attempts.
UC Clermont falls to 5-7 overall. The Lady Cougars will play Kent State Tuscarawas on January 4th at 1 p.m. Midway improves to 8-3 overall. The Eagles will travel to play Governors State University on December 29th at 5 p.m.
