GRAYSON, Kentucky- Kentucky Christian beat UC Clermont by a score of 83-69 on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Knights jumped out to a 28-14 lead after the first quarter, highlighted by a 10-0 run. The lead ballooned to 54-33 at halftime.
Tamira Scott knocked down a shot near the end of the third quarter to cut the lead to 61-50. Mikyra Caudil responded very quickly with a 3 before McKaila Hatton responded with a 3 of her own on the next possession to make the score 64-53 and keep the Lady Cougars within striking distance. UC Clermont outscored Kentucky Christian 22-15 in the third quarter, but still found themselves down 69-55 to start the final quarter.
Tamira Scott connected on a jump shot to cut the lead to 77-69 with 4:13 left in the game, but that was as close as the Cougars would get in the fourth. The Lady Knights held on for an 83-69 victory.
Sarah Sorrells led the Lady Knights with 20 points, 5 steals, and 5 assists. Kelsee Simpson pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds. Bell Sparks shot 9-12 from the field and finished with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Tamira Scott led the Lady Cougars with 35 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Keara Brooks shot 6-10 for 13 points and had a team-high 8 rebounds.
The Lady Knights out-rebounded the Lady Cougars 39-27 and outscored them 46-34 in the paint. Kentucky Christian had 17 second-chance points and 15 fast break points compared to just 7 second-chance points and 4 fast break points from Clermont.
UC Clermont falls to 4-6 overall and will host Clark State tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. Kentucky Christian improves to 4-6 overall and will host Indiana East on Saturday at 1 p.m.
