BERRIEN SPRINGS, Michigan– UC Clermont beat Andrews University by a score of 67-34 on Saturday night.
Andrews jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. UC Clermont responded with a huge second quarter where they outscored the Cardinals 21-8. The Cougars went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter and took a 29-19 lead into halftime. The third quarter was even better for the Cougars, outscoring Andrews 24-5 and putting the game out of reach at 53-24. UC Clermont started the second half with a 10-0 run, amounting to a 17-0 run dating back to the second quarter. Breanna Hinds stopped the run with a two-pointer, making it 39-21. The Cougars would then score 10 unanswered to push their lead to 49-21.
Tamira Scott led the Cougars with 24 points, 7 steals, and 6 assists. Scott had a near double-double with 9 rebounds on the night. Alexis Neal had a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 14 boards. McKaila Hatton added 15 points and knocked down a team-high four 3-pointers.
Sarah Banish led the Cardinals with 15 points while Junia Alce pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds.
AU shot just 19.7% from the field, 1-20 (5%) from three, and 53.8% from the free throw line. Clermont shot 35.3% from the field, 31.8% from three, and 54.5% from the free throw line. The Cardinals turned the ball over 19 times, while the Cougars had 13 turnovers. UC Clermont out-rebounded AU 61-42 and outplayed them in every facet of the game.
UC Clermont improves to 4-5 overall and will travel to take on Kentucky Christian University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Andrews University falls to 0-9 and will be looking for their first victory when they host Maranatha Baptist University on Thursday at 5 p.m.
