BATAVIA, Ohio– Kentucky Christian beat UC Clermont by a score of 76-74 on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars held a 74-72 lead when Chloee Dunn connected on a huge three assisted by Madilyn Meade with 19 seconds remaining in the game. UC Clermont had a 52-38 advantage with 2:56 left in the second quarter, but Kentucky Christian slowly cut into the lead in the second half.
Kelsee Simpson had a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and three blocks for the Knights. Kentucky Christian had 38 points off of the bench, led by Madilyn Meade with 16. Mikyra Caudill led the team with seven assists and had a near double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
Katie Tatum led the Cougars in scoring with 23 points and converted on four of her seven three point attempts. McKaila Hatton knocked down five three pointers and had 17 points. Tamira Scott had 13 points, four dimes, and four boards. Shelby Humphrey finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Cougars actually shot better than the Knights from the field, 47.5% to 35.2%. UC Clermont converted on 44.4% from the three point line, compared to just 17.2% from Kentucky Christian. The Knights out rebounded the Cougars 53-44, and turned the ball over just 17 times compared to 31 turnovers from UC Clermont. Rebounding and turnovers proved to be a critical part of the game, with the Knights scoring 21 second chance points and 20 points off of turnovers.
Kentucky Christian improves to 1-3 and will travel to play Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday at 5 p.m. UC Clermont falls to 0-3 and will travel to take on Clark State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
